Type of Partnership:
Doctors and nurses at the surgery are most likelythe first medical professionals to encouter local victims of domestic violence due to the patient's presentations of bruises, sprains, fractures that are not explainable, falsfied explanation of falls, burns or scars that are not easilly explained away. Doctors are the first line of prevention of domestic violence as they are able to observe the victims and report cases of established abuse. Healthcare professionals are essential to the prevention of prolonged domestic abuse.

Hospital Partnership:
It is reported that one incident of domestic violence is reported to the police every minute and on an average, 2 women a week are killed by a current or former male partner- that is scary!
The emergency care unit sees victims of domestic vilence everyday all across local, national and international hospitals all over the world. The ER doctors & staff know first hand the looks on the faces of women and children victims with bruises, sprains, cuts, abrasions, broken bones, swellings, pain and more. They know and see it too often.

Hospitals staff are able to report cases of confirmed victims. Thankfully some hospitals have police/security posts on their facilities. There are times when the abuser accompanies the abused to the hospital. mostly to keep the threat & intimidation alive. Doctors & staff at hospitals have the greatest potential for reporting & prevention of continued incidence of domestic violence as they are able to observe, document and record the cases of victims and report cases of established abuse to the police. Healthcare professionals are essential to the prevention of prolonged domestic abuse.
